Thornwake Manor was built by Alistair Thornwake, a collector of what he called "unlucky heirlooms" — a child's scorched music box, a widow's unworn wedding dress, a soldier's letters never sent.
Among Thornwake's acquisitions was a fortune-telling automaton called Monsieur Morrowen. After it arrived, things in the manor began to change. Objects that once held meaning started to feel wrong. Hollow. Present but empty.
